Mites win Pennsauken, NJ "B" Tournament

The Ice Dogs won the Mite B division at the Flyers Skate Zone Spring Tournament at Pennsauken, New Jersey.  The Ice Dogs started the tournament with a tough 6-1 win against the Fayetteville Jr Force (North Carolina).  The Force scores just 12 seconds into this 5:45AM game, but the Ice Dogs woke up and came back to tie 1-1 by the end of the first.  Our tough defense (Chris Ryan, Joe Duquette, David Bohnwagner & Colton Craig) held them to 3 shots the remainder of the game, including none in the 3rd.  In the second game, the Ice Dogs defeated the Pennsauken Flyers 12-1, taking 50 shots on goal.  The Ice Dogs faced the Fayetteville Force again in the championship game.  The Ice Dogs played hard and defeated the Force 6-1.  The first goal was scored when Alex Bureau forechecked the Force defenseman behind the net, stole the puck and fed Kevin Young in the slot.  Bill Ryan scored the second and subsequent game winner on a hard wrist shot assisted by Elijah Spoone.  Brendon Sheiry continued his recent scoring trends with 4 goals for the weekend, Allen Boelke added 3, Jonathan Daniels had 2, and Eddie Kascsak had 5 assists..  These games were much closer than the score indicates - outstanding goaltending by Greg Hyde kept all but one of the Force's quality shots out of the net.  This weekend the Mites were joined by 4 lower house Mite players: JC Louis Charles (1G, 2A), Bill Ryan (1G, 1A), Elijah Spoone (1G, 1A) and David Bohnwagner (Defense, 1A).  Overall an excellent weekend and an end to a great season!

The Valley Forge Colonials, Red Bank Generals, Quakers and the New Jersey Devils found themselves pitted unsuccessfully against the solid Defense of Lyon Messier, Sam Cooper, Colin Thompson, Eugene Murphy, Mike Fransen and Eric Stiber. In describing the team's victory, Coach Bowser said, "Earning the right to face the other American and Canadian regional winners is a great honor. Certainly, we face a major challenge. But beware the consequences when this pack of dogs is let out!!"
